The 5 Ways to Better Wellbeing in a Complicated World…

5 Ways to Well-being introduces you to five

simple and effective ways to improve your

psychological and emotional health that are

based on extensive international research.

A healthy mind is just as important as a healthy body for your overall well-

being. Like physical fitness, you can strengthen your psychological health in lots

of small day-to-day ways. This will help you live a happier and a longer life as well

as help you to cope with stress.

The five ways we are going to reflect on are being: mindful, active, generous,

interested, and connected.

Mindful: studies have shown that savoring the moment can also help you to

feel more positive about life. Reminding yourself to take notice can help you to

be aware of how you're feeling. It can help you to understand what triggers your

feeling of stress or anxiety. Some ways to be mindful are to take a different route

on your journey to or from work, visit a new place for lunch or get a plant for your

workspace.

Active: Many people find that physical activity helps them maintain positive

mental health. It doesn't mean that you have to run marathons or train every day

at the gym there's lots of different things you can do to just be a bit more active.

You could take the stairs rather than an elevator, go for a walk at lunchtime or do

some stretches before you leave for work in the morning.

Generous: there's a lot of research about the effects of taking part in social

and community life. Some studies have shown that people who help others are

more likely to rate themselves as happy. Is there anything you can do today to be

kind or helpful to somebody else? You could try making a cup of tea for a friend,

offering help to a family member or seeing if there are any volunteering

opportunities open at work.

Interested: we're always learning new things often without even realizing it.

Feeling like you're learning and developing can boost your self-esteem. And

sometimes setting goals can help you feel more productive and more in control of

your life ways that you can learn today are to learn a new word, sign up for a class

or do a crossword or Sudoku.

Connected: connecting with others can help us feel close to people, and

valued for who we are. Some ways that we could make a connection today are to

ask how someone's weekend was or put 5 minutes aside to find out how a friend

or family member is doing.
