Signs of Potty-Training Readiness…
Fall is my favorite time to potty train. It's
often a time when kids are wearing cozy
clothing that's easier to get on and off making
the potty-training experience much less
challenging.
Obviously, the season is a great time but you're also looking for your child and
YOU to be ready for the potty-training experience. Here's are the signs for children
of potty-training readiness:
They're staying dry for longer periods of time
They follow simple directions
They can sit on the potty for short periods of time
Waking up from naps dry
Communicating that they need to go potty
Showing interest in the bathroom
Pulling at a wet or dirty diaper or knowing when they are going in their diaper
Can undress themselves
Here is what you need to be ready for the potty-training experience:
You have the time and energy to be patient with the potty-training experience.
You have some ideas on ways to make potty training fun and engaging.
You have low expectations for your child to make it to the potty every time.
You recognize the physiological, cognitive and emotional signs they are ready to go potty.
You are ready to give lots of praise and no punishments.
You have ways to ways to work through the frustration and stress of setbacks in potty training.
